Why Applying for a Job on LinkedIn does not work?

With the advent of platforms like LinkedIn, Naukri.com, IIMjobs.com, and other job search platforms it seems easy to find a suitable job and apply instantly, these platforms even notify you when a job matching your requirements pops up.

Anyone who has been searching for a job on these platforms would agree that while searching and applying for the jobs seems easy, the real struggle is to get these applications converted into interview calls.

these are the latest job postings posted just hours before this post went live, you can search these job postings and many more like this and verify. as you can see, there are hundreds of applications on each job postings with hours of posting. It shows how the supply of talent grossly outweighs the demand on any job platform. Now certainly a well-drafted CV with important keywords, a good format can make an impact if it comes under the radar of the recruiter. It is certainly beyond any recruiter’s capacity to go through the barrage of applications. Thus barring some initial suitable applicants, all other goes unnoticed.

So what’s the Solution:

Well, there are many ways in which you can circumvent this issue.

  1. Be among the first : Create a Linkedin Job Search Alert for your desirable job criteria. mention the designation, Location etc. and Linkedin will give you alert notification as soon as similar job is posted, you might get a chance to be the first one to apply and get yourself noticed by the recruiter.

  2. Bypass the Platform: You can not be ever vigilant to apply as soon as the job is posted, suppose you notice a posting when there are already several hundred applications are there. You need to get your application reach to the recruiter through other means. As shown in the below image, sometimes the name of a recruiter is mentioned in the post itself. reach out to him/her on LinkedIn message with your CV

Even if the recruiter’s name is not mentioned, search for employees with recruiter, HR, etc designations in the same organization, and same location and try to send your CV to them.

  1. Identify Hiring Manager: This is a little tricky but comes in handy if you know the designations prevailing in the market for your desired role pretty well. You can identify who can be the manager/department HOD for the particular job posting you are interested in and contact them on Linkedin to get your CV across.

There are many other ways that are effective but a little more intrusive thus avoiding mentioning them here.
